    Los cambios que se generaron en Medellín durante la transición en la que dejaba de ser una localidad semirural para convertirse en una metrópoli industrial a finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX, abrieron el espacio para que sus habitantes se apropiaran, en los nuevos ámbitos, de las costumbres, tradiciones y normas de comportamiento que se traían de Europa, de la misma manera en que se importaban alimentos, textiles, medicinas y, por supuesto, todo lo relacionado con la música y el arte. El presente trabajo propone realizar un estudio de caso desde la perspectiva de la historia cultural, en el periodo comprendido entre 1892 y 1914 en Medellín. Esta temporalidad abarca la estación en que la Banda Marcial estuvo bajo la dirección de Rafael D’Alemán, quien además ejerció funciones como profesor, artista independiente y gestor cultural. El objetivo principal del presente artículo es abordar a Rafael D’Alemán como pionero de la Gestión Cultural, instaurando a su vez, una nueva tradición en un momento en el que se evidenció una transformación de la sociedad, y que a pesar de las dificultades que tuvo que afrontar, continuó realizando hasta el final de sus días. La labor realizada por Rafael D’Alemán sirvió como agente en estos tres estamentos que coincidieron sinérgicamente: sociedad, Estado y cultura.

    The changes were generated in Medellin during the transition of a location semi rural that was intended to be an industrial city, at the end of the century XIX, and beginning of the century XX, they opened the scope for them population to appropiate in the new spaces of customs, traditions and norms of behavior were brought from Europe, in the same way that food, textiles, medicines were imported and, of course, everything related to music and art. This paper proposes to carry a case study from the perspective of cultural history, in the period between 1892 and 1914 in Medellin. This period covers the time when the Martial Band was under the direction of Rafael D’ Alemán, who also served as a teacher, independent artist and cultural manager. The main objective of this article is to address Rafael D’ Alemán as a pioneer in Cultural Management, in turn establishing a new tradition at a time when a transformation of society was evident and despite the difficulties he had to face, He continued his job as a cultural manager. The work carried by Rafael D’ Alemán, served as an agent in which Society, State and Culture coincided synergistically.
