    Este trabajo pretende realizar un análisis descriptivo del desarrollo pesquero en el Atlántico Sur, y, su estado actual, dentro del ámbito jurisdiccional de la Provincia de Tierra del Fuego, Antártida e Islas del Atlántico Sur. A partir de la información bibliográfica y normativa disponible, se realizará un análisis de las distintas pesquerías, desde un enfoque integral. Abordando, cronológicamente, tanto el marco legal, como el contexto político, social y económico en el cual se desarrollan.

    El recorte temporal de la investigación estará limitado a los últimos cuarenta años. Se iniciará con la pesca artesanal en las localidades costeras, describiendo características de cada zona, actividades realizadas y dificultades que se presentan para establecer proyectos económicamente sostenibles.

    Luego se profundizará en la actividad industrial, realizando una caracterización de la actividad y de las especies objetivo. Mostrando que, la reducción en el tamaño y número de la flota, está asociada al aumento del esfuerzo pesquero. Por otra parte, se deja en evidencia, de que, si bien la explotación con buques factorías genera el mayor volumen de divisas para el país, es una actividad que no genera trabajo en tierra, ni vinculo social, impidiendo la reactivación de la economía local asociada a la pesca.

    This work aims to carry out a descriptive analysis of the fishing development in the South Atlantic, and its current state, within the jurisdictional scope of the Province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands. Based on the available bibliographic and regulatory information, an analysis of the different fisheries will becarried out, from an integral approach. Addressing, chronologically, both the legal framework and the political, social and economic context in which they develop.The temporary cut of the investigation will be limited to the last forty years. It will start with artisanal fishing in coastal towns, describing characteristics of each area, activities carried out and difficulties that arise to establish economically sustainable projects.Then the industrial activity will be deepened, carrying out a characterization of the activity and of the target species. Showing that the reduction in the size and number of the fleet is associated with the increase in fishing effort. On the other hand, it is made clear that although the operation with factory ships generatesthe largest volume of foreign currency for the country, it is an activity that does not generate work on land, nor social ties, preventing the reactivation of the associated local economy with fishing.
