    The article shed light on the little-known travel of the painter Tarsila do Amaral and the writer Oswald de Andrade to the Middle East in early 1926. Presents empirical research on the path followed by the couple of “Modernists” and other participants in the Journey. The aim is to reflect on the extent the trip impacted their work. On the other hand, it is interesting to insert this journey in the context of a broader tradition of travels in/to the Middle East and more specifically Brazilian travelers to this region. And the final question is to what extent we can think of a “Tropical Orientalism” based on this experience.

    O artigo lança luz à pouco conhecida viagem da pintora Tarsila do Amaral e do escritor Oswald de Andrade ao Oriente Médio no início de 1926. Apresenta-se pesquisa empírica sobre o trajeto seguido pelo casal de Modernistas e demais participantes do périplo, para então refletir em que medida a viagem impactou em suas obras. Interessa por um lado inserir a viagem em questão no contexto de certa tradição mais ampla de viagens no/para o Oriente Médio e mais especificamente de viajantes brasileiros, e em que medida podemos pensar em um Orientalismo Tropical a partir destas.
