    • In the process of rediscovering the architecture of the Norman domination in Sicily played a setting role the restoration of the main monuments of this period, begun in the late nineteenth century with Giuseppe Patricolo, Director of the Regional Office of Monuments and continued by Francesco Valenti, Superintendent of Monuments of Sicily in the early twentieth century.

In particular, in 1920 Valenti, at that time Architect of the Superintendency, restored the chapel and the loggia of Coronation in Palermo, a very important monument in the history of the Normans in Sicily because, according to some historians, the Norman kings were crowned in it. Over the centuries the loggia was transformed and suffered some collapses; Valenti restored the structural and decorative parts of the Norman era, such as the marble columns and balustrades and rebuilt the architrave on the reinforced concrete covered with plaster. In addition, for structural and economic reasons, he restored only one of the pointed arches that had to be set on the columns.

Today the loggia is, after the results of the restoration of 1920, one of the emblematic monuments of Norman architecture in Palermo.
