La biografía del pintor Cristóbal García Salmerón todavía presenta importantes lagunas, especial-mente en lo relativo a sus primeros años de vida y a las relaciones personales que fue forjando a lo largo de su carrera. Sin embargo, en este artículo, se arroja luz a esta cuestión gracias a la carta de dote que Juana Millán y su familia ofrecen al artista en 1625 con motivo de su enlace matrimonial en la que, además de importantes sumas de dinero, se incluían joyas, muebles, pinturas y hasta unas casas de morada en la ciudad de Cuenca. Además, los datos contenidos en este documento han permitido hallar más información acerca de la familia política del maestro cuyos miembros ejercían cargos y profesio-nes relevantes que pudieron beneficiar artísticamente al pintor.

The biography of the painter Cristóbal García Salmerón still contains significant gaps, particularly with regard to his early years and the personal relationships he forged throughout his career. However, this article sheds light on this issue through the letter of dowry that Juana Millán and her family offered the artist on the occasion of their marriage in 1625, which, in addition to substantial sums of money, included jewellery, furniture, paintings and even a dwelling in the city of Cuenca. The information contained in this document has also revealed further infor-mation on the artist’s in-laws, whose members held important positions and professions that may have benefited thepainter artistically.
