  • Resumen
    • This essay aims to analyze the baroque building site of one of the most representative churches in the city of L’Aquila. The construction of this church is analyzed here through the study of archival documents, paying particular attention to the architects and masters involved, to construction techniques and, above all, to relations and languages from Rome’s area. The confraternity of the Suffragio gave the project to the architect Carlo Buratti, but the element that characterizes the architecture is the façade designed by Giovan Francesco Leomporri in 1769. Then, in the early nineteenth century Giuseppe Valadier designed the dome. This building was damaged by the 2009 earthquake; it was rededicated in 2018 thus becoming the symbol of the reconstruction of the city.
