    Emmanuel Lévinas dedica a Merleau-Ponty el texto «La Signification et le sens» (1964). En él define de forma dinámica la obra como «movimiento del Mismo hacia el Otro que no vuelve jamás al Mismo». Sin embargo, si la obra no vuelve al mismo, tampoco es a fondo perdido. Lévinas hace entrar la experiencia estética en el problema de la intersubjetividad. La ética, como la concibe Lévinas, es probablemente incompatible con el arte y la literatura como experiencias de retorno. Sólo la palabra puede liberar la belleza artística de su soledad y de su mutismo. La superioridad que Lévinas atribuye a la palabra sobre la escritura resulta de la superioridad de la lengua hablada en presencia del otro. A partir de la obra de Giacometti, intentaremos demostrar que la visión es un pensamiento (Merleau-Ponty), que la mirada es el fundamento de la ética, lo que Lévinas entiende por responsabilidad.

    Emmanuel Lévinas dedicates to Merleau-Ponty the text “La signification et le sens” (1964). In it, the author dynamically defines the work as “movement from oneself to the other one that never returns to oneself”. However, if the work doesn’t return to oneself, it is not completely lost. Lévinas brings the aesthetic experience into the problem of intersubjectivity. Ethics, as Lévinas conceives it, is probably incompatible with art and literature as experiences of return. Only words can free the artistic beauty of its solitude and its silence. The superiority that Lévinas attributes to words over writing is a consequence of the superiority of the spoken language in presence of “the other one”. From the work of Giacometti, we try to demonstrate that vision is a thought (Merleau-Ponty), that sight is the foundation of the ethics, what Lévinas understands by responsibility.
