    • The Iacopo Caldora Palace in Vasto and the late Gothic architecture in the Kingdom of Naples The palace of Iacopo Caldora is located in Vasto, a city located on the coast of the Adriatic Sea, near the border between the Abruzzi and Molise regions.

Better known as Palazzo d’Avalos - because in its present aspect it represents the result of the late sixteenth-century transformation promoted by the last feudal lords of the city- the fifteenth-century building of Caldora appears rather preserved, both for the important volumes and for the interesting series of doors, windows and construction details that betray its origin of the age of the Anjou-Durazzo dynasty.

The examination of these elements allows the stylistic and constructive characteristics of the building to be placed in the context of the Neapolitan architecture of the first half of the fifteenth century. And both the size and the refinement of some decorative details lead us to ima- gine that it was a residence of great importance: a building with a rectangular plan, with a courtyard in the center and a garden, placed in a dominant position both with respect to the city and, above all, compared to the underlying sea coast.
