    El derecho a un medio ambiente sano y su estrecha relación e interdependencia con otros derechos humanos está ampliamente reconocido en las Américas. No obstante, la lógica extractivista de la mayoría de las economías de los Estados americanos favorece el desarrollo de actividades empresariales que generan impactos ambientales negativos y que afectan el disfrute de este derecho, así como otros derechos humanos que dependen de las condiciones ambientales adecuadas para su disfrute. En este sentido, el presente estudio responde a la pregunta de investigación sobre en qué medida los estándares interamericanos en materia de empresas y derechos humanos contribuyen y aportan nuevos elementos para el respeto y garantía del derecho a un medio ambiente sano en el contexto de las actividades extractivas.

    The right to a healthy environment and its close relationship and interdependence with other human rights are widely recognized in the Americas. However, the extractivist logic of most of the American States’ economies facilitates the development of business activities that generate serious negative impacts and affects the enjoyment of this right, as well as other human rights that depend on the appropriate environmental conditions for their enjoyment. In this sense, this article answers the research question on the extent to which the inter-American standards on business and human rights contribute and provide new elements for the respect and guarantee of the right to a healthy environment in the context of extractive activities.
