    Como resultado de una serie de tertulias y tutorías privadas, que luego de su jubilación en la Universidad de Columbia fueron enfocándose en su trayectoria vital y profesional, fuimos construyendo lentamente el esquema o boceto de una futura biografía que nunca llegó a materializarse. El profesor anticipaba, llegando a pronosticar sin equivocarse, que mis notas terminarían publicándose como un testimonio póstumo a su partida final. He aquí el resumen de tantas conversaciones y dictados, formales e informales, de Gonzalo Sobejano a través de sus últimos catorce años en la ciudad de Nueva York.

    As a result of a series of conversations about literature and private tutorials, which after his retirement from Columbia University were focusing on his life and professional trajectory, we were slowly building the outline or sketch for a future biography that never materialized.

    The professor was anticipating, and even unmistakably predicting, that my notes would be published as a testimonial after his passing. Presented here is the summary of many conversations and dictations, formal and informal, of Gonzalo Sobejano through the last fourteen years of his life in New York City.
