“Bioshock infinite” e o fenômeno da violência legítima: uma análise a partir das contribuições de Hannah Arendt

    This research aims at contributing to the understanding of the contemporary “legitimate violence” phenomenon. For this, the paper presents the analysis of the fictional work BioShock Infinite through the philosophy of Hannah Arendt, considering the link between Law and art forms. The methodology employed is that of a bibliographic research, based on Gilbert Durand’s mythocritique, which aims at revealing the imagistic meanings behind art. It resulted in the advancement in understanding the symbology behind the name Columbia, the different forms of manifestation of tyranny and the role of the founding fathers as ancestors for American society. In addition, it resulted in a better perception of how the artistic work symbolizes the erosion of freedom in tyrannical regimes, of how propaganda is an essential tool for lying in politics, of how violence is the weapon of a government without authority, and of how the privileged citizens tolerate the oppression of the less favored people due to the banality of evil, depersonifying them. Finally, it culminates in the idea that necessity operates as one of the worst types of violence and that civil disobedience is the true form of legitimate violence.

    A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo contribuir para o entendimento do fenômeno da violência legítima. Para isso, propõe-se a analisar a obra ficcional Bioshock Infinite através da filosofia de Hannah Arendt, transitando no liame entre o direito e a arte. A metodologia empregada é a pesquisa bibliográfica e a mitocrítica de Gilbert Durand, apta a revelar o significado imagético por trás da arte. Resultou no avanço na compreensão da simbologia por trás do nome Colúmbia, das diferentes formas de manifestação da tirania e do papel dos pais fundadores como ancestrais para a sociedade americana. Além disso, resultou em uma melhor percepção de como a obra artística simboliza a erosão da liberdade em regimes tirânicos, de como a propaganda é uma ferramenta essencial para a mentira na política, de como a violência é arma de um governo sem autoridade e de que seus cidadãos privilegiados toleram a opressão dos menos favorecidos em razão da banalidade do mal, os despersonificando. Por fim, culmina na ideia de que a necessidade opera como um dos piores tipos de violência e que a desobediência civil é a verdadeira forma de violência legítima.
