    This article is a reflection on the events initiated by the French Revolution. The Revolution itself will not be analyzed, but the phenomena generated by this historical event, such as the advent of the bourgeoisie and modernity. The question here is the relationship between a certain conception of history and the commitment to human emancipation. This question arises from an analysis held on the Habermasian diagnosis of modernity, according to which emancipation is discarded. In this sense, the objective is to offer a counterpoint to the habermasian theory, anchored in a commitment to human emancipation. The conceptual historiography of Reihart Koselleck is adopted in terms of methodology. The analysis is based on Karl Marx's theory of revolution. It is concluded that only the revolutionary alternative brings with it a conception of history intrinsically linked to the idea of the autonomous emancipation of humanity, a task that cannot be left aside, even if its realization is taken as something far distant from practice.

    O presente artigo busca refletir sobre os acontecimentos desencadeados pela Revolução Francesa. A Revolução em si não será analisada, mas os fenômenos por ela gerados, como o advento da burguesia e da modernidade. A inquietação trazida aqui é a relação entre uma determinada concepção de história e o compromisso pela emancipação do homem. A questão surge a partir de uma análise sobre o diagnóstico habermasiano da modernidade, segundo o qual a emancipação está descartada. Nesse sentido, o objetivo é oferecer um contraponto à teoria habermasiana. A metodologia adotada é a da historiografia conceitual de Reinhart Koselleck. A análise se dá pela ótica da teoria de revolução de Karl Marx. Conclui-se que somente a alternativa revolucionária traz consigo uma concepção de história intrinsecamente ligada à ideia de emancipação autônoma da humanidade, tarefa que não pode ser deixada de lado, mesmo que sua realização seja vislumbrada como algo muito distante da prática.
