    La ruta del Mediterráneo central ha sido uno de los principales canales de entrada de migrantes irregulares para llegar a la Unión Europea durante los últimos años. La creación de la Operación EUNAVFOR MED SOPHIA, dentro de la Política Común de Seguridad y Defensa de la UE, ha contribuido a disminuir notablemente el tráfico ilícito de migrantes en dicha ruta. La falta de consenso en política migratoria de los Estados miembros dificulta la continuidad de una operación militar que, en cualquier caso, podría sufrir modificaciones para adaptarse a los cambiantes flujos migratorios marítimos.

    In the last few years, the Central Mediterranean has been the main route used by irregular migrants to reach the European Union. The creation of EUNAVFOR MED Operation, SOPHIA within the Common Security and Defence Policy of the EU, has contributed significantly to the reduction in the smuggling business of irregular migrants in this area.

    The lack of consensus on the Migration policy of the Member States makes it difficult for military operations. Adapting the mandate to the changing migratory flows could be made.
