  • Resumen
    • This contribution foregrounds Santi Romano’s particular understanding of pluralism as neither a theory nor a state of things but as a technique. By exploring the notion of relevance, put forward by Romano in the second part of The Legal Order, I will make the claim that he regarded legal knowledge as a special technique to handle conflicts of legal orders. He thought that the intercourse between orders should be governed with exclusive recourse to the compositional power of the legal jargon. My conclusion is that this is not so much a view of law as it is a penetrating understanding of variation in social life.
