    Con este artículo, pretendemos abarcar una parcela del patrimonio cultural ecijano que no se ha investigado, las pinturas murales de los interiores de las iglesias conventuales de Écija. Este trabajo se completa con el artículo referido a las pinturas murales en el interior de las parroquias. Para llevar a cabo esta labor nos hemos guiado por fotografías antiguas conservadas en la Fototeca del Laboratorio de Arte de la Universidad de Sevilla. Esto nos ha permitido ver la evolución de los interiores antes y después de la década 1940. Hemos de incidir en que en este trabajo recogemos aquellas pinturas que han desaparecido, como el caso de las que cubrían las naves y presbiterio de la iglesia de la Purísima Concepción, popularmente llamado de Las Gemelas.

    También, el interior de los templos conventuales fue encalado, cubriendo las pinturas murales de sus paramentos por innumerables capas de cal, por lo que muchas de las cuales continúan aún hoy día ocultas. En otros casos esta decoración fue sometida a sucesivas modificaciones o fueron repintadas en varias restauraciones, como, por ejemplo, algunas de la iglesia de Santa Inés del Valle.

    Con este inventario, pretendemos dar a conocer y dejar constancia de las pinturas murales que han desaparecido y que se conservan en la actualidad en los interiores de las iglesias conventuales de nuestra ciudad.

    With this article, we aim at dealing with a part of the cultural heritage of the city that has not been investigated: the mural paintings in the interiors of the conventual churches of Écija. This work is completed with the article referring to mural paintings in the interior of the parishes. To carry out this work we have approached old photographs preserved in the Photo Library of the Laboratory of Art at the University of Seville. This has allowed us to see the evolution of the interiors before and after the 1940s. We must remark that in this work we collect those paintings that have disappeared, as it is the case of those that covered the nave and presbytery of the church of the Purísima Concepción, commonly called Las Gemelas.

    The interiors of the conventual temples were also whitewashed, covering their mural paintings with innumerable layers of lime, so that many of them remain hidden nowadays. In other cases, this decoration was subjected to successive modifications or repainted in successive restorations, as, for example, several of them in the church of Santa Inés del Valle.

    With this inventory, we aim at portraying and recording those mural paintings which have disappeared and those that are currently preserved in the interiors of the conventual churches of our city.
