Una moneda, dos lecturas. A propósito de un denario de Cleopatra y Marco Antonio hallado en la ciudad romana de Valeria (Cuenca)

    Dentro del conjunto monetario de la ciudad romana de Valeria (Cuenca) se quieredestacar un denario acuñado a nombre de Cleopatra y Antonio. El tipo al que pertenece se haestudiado, tradicionalmente, desde la faceta romana; pero nuevas investigaciones sobre la figura deCleopatra aportan otros puntos de vista que, por un lado, favorecen la lectura de este denario desdeel contexto monetario e histórico egipcio y, por otro, ponen de relieve el papel desarrollado por lareina en las acciones políticas llevadas a cabo por Antonio en el Mediterráneo oriental.

    As part of the group of coins found in the Roman city of Valeria (Cuenca), I would like to highlight a denarius minted with the name of Cleopatra and Antony. The type it belongs to has traditionally being studied from the Roman perspective; but recent research about the figure of Cleopatra has provided with other points of view, which, on one hand, help with the reading of this denarius within the monetary and historical Egyptian context and, on the other hand, highlight the role developed by the queen in the political actions undertaken by Antony in the Eastern Mediterranean area.
