    Breve reseña del trayecto histórico del documento de identidad costarricense desde 1923 año de su primera emisión, hasta su última modificación en 2016. El artículo expone cómo nació el documento de identidad y la participación activa del Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones en su modernización, integración de elementos de seguridad y el mejoramiento en el servicio de expedición de la cédula, con base en la competencia otorgada en la Constitución Política vigente desde 1949

    A brief review of the journey of the Costa Rican identification card since 1923, the year in which it was issued for the first time up to its last modification in 2016. The article shows how the identification card was born and the active participation of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal in regard to its modernization, integration of security elements and the improvement of the issuance service based on the power granted in the Political Constitution, which has been in effect since 1949
