La cuarta dimensión del derecho y su relación con el surgimiento de la codificación civil

    A las tres tradicionales dimensiones del Derecho, norma, hecho y valor debemos agregarle una cuarta dimensión la historicidad. Partiendo de esa premisa, debe existir una estrecha relación entre las ciencias del Derecho y la Historia. Los acontecimientos ocurridos en Europa y América previo y durante el surgimiento de la codificación civil son fundamentales para entender el contenido y aplicación del Derecho Civil de la época. De igual forma, en el caso de Guatemala, los hechos históricos post independiente también fueron un factor importante que influyó en las modificaciones realizadas a lo largo del siglo XX.

    To the three traditional Law dimensions, regulation, incident and value, a forth one must be added, historicity. Based on this premise, a close relation between Law and History must exist. The events that occurred in Europe and America before and after the rise of the civil codification are fundamental to understand the content and application of Civil Law at that point in time. Additionally, in the case of Guatemala, the historic events that followed the Independence were also important factors that influence the modifications done through the XX century.
