    Los principales objetivos de este artículo son 1) identificar el contexto editorial en el que aparecen dos grabados de los siglos xvi y xvii que representan el árbol genealógico de las herejías, coronado por las figuras del Papa y el sultán otomano; 2) explicar el significado ideológico de este motivo iconográfico; 3) examinar algunos signos de su recepción en ambientes protestantes del siglo xvii. Una vez localizados los libros que albergan estas estampas, se concluye que: a) ambas plasman de manera eficaz la idea, muy extendida en los ambientes protestantes, de que la Iglesia católica y el Islam son dos grandes herejías al servicio del Anticristo, que se han desarrollado a partir de las corrientes heterodoxas preexistentes y que, finalmente, las han absorbido por completo. b) El ataque simultáneo contra el Papismo y el Islam (identificado éste último con la religión del imperio otomano), más allá de su orientación polemística, está presidido por una mentalidad milenarista.

    The main objectives of this paper are: 1) to identify the editorial context in which appear two 16th and 17th centuries’ engravings representing the family tree of heresies, surmounted by the figures of the pope and the Ottoman sultan; 2): to explain the ideological significance of this iconographic motif; 3): to examine some signs of their reception in 17th century Protestant circles. Having located the books containing these pictures, it is concluded that: a) both reflected effectively the idea, widespread in Protestant environments, that the Catholic Church and Islam are two great heresies serving the Antichrist and developed from preexisting heretical doctrines. b) The simultaneous attack against Popery and Islam (the latter identified with the religion of the Ottoman Empire), beyond its polemical orientation, is conditioned by a millenarian mentality.
