    Las dictaduras en América Latina han tenido un desarrollo especial, porque las mismas se han manifestado de formas diversas. Estas lo han hecho desde la forma tradicional hasta las formas semidemocráticas de mantener en el gobierno a personajes que absorben y se perpetuán en el poder y que a pesar de contar con el respaldo de sus electores, estos realmente se mantienen allí por razones tales como el temor existente o inminente, la sumisión o incapacidad de los otros poderes y ante todo por la eliminación sistemática de contendores políticos reales, a lo que se suma el desconocimiento del significado dictador, es por ello que el presente intentara dar una definición de dictadura, describirá sus elementos, hará un recorrido por Latinoamérica respecto a sus dictadores y finalmente intentara unas conclusiones.
