The present paper reviews the evolution of historical semantics, in addition to contextualizing this discipline. The paper has as its aim to describe briefly how historical semantics has gradually taken shape since its appearance in the 19th century and until the present day, equally specifying the hypotheses that it has posed. The paper likewise provides a summary of the different papers included in this monograph, explains their originality, and shows the extent to which they have contributed to the study of semantic evolution, both from a theoretical point of view and in descriptive terms.
