    The Sea gains a mystical and metaphorical dimension according to Cecília Meireles, fact that is almost unique in the universe of Luso-Brazilian Poetry. An attentive reading of the poem “Mar Absoluto”, and of other poems in the poetical novel with that same title suggests many interpretations about the metamorphose that occurs between the poet, the sea and the poetry. This metamorphose is the main idea followed in this article. As it is a common subject in literature, the sea in this Brazilian poet’s novel crosses the border of real and turns into the concept of absolute poetry. Plastic, fluid and available, this „new” poetry is a loneliness freedom which leads Cecília to her inside, in a sort of introspection based on the projection of the past into the present as an anticipation of the future itself.

    A dimensão mística e metafórica que Cecília Meireles atribui ao mar distingue-a no universo poético da literatura luso-brasileira. Uma leitura atenta do poema “Mar Absoluto”, e de outros textos incluídos na obra com o mesmo título, leva-nos a sugerir várias leituras acerca da metamorfose que se opera entre a poetisa, o mar e a poesia. Esta tríade constitui o fio condutor do artigo “Encontrei «outro Mar» com Cecília Meireles”. Tema presente na literatura, o mar ultrapassa, na obra desta ilustre poetisa brasileira, a barreira do real e transfigura-se no absoluto da poesia. Poesia plástica, fluida e disponível é o conceito da liberdade solitária que leva Cecília ao seu interior, numa introspecção assente na projecção do passado no presente, como antecipação do futuro.
