    Durante los últimos años, y con mayor énfasis en el último lustro, la Organización de Naciones Unidas ha mostrado gran preocupación por la situación de las víctimas de la Guerra Civil española y la posterior represión franquista, recomendando al Estado español modificaciones legislativas y profundos cambios institucionales orientados a una mejor protección y reconocimiento de los derechos a la verdad, la justicia y la reparación de este colectivo, así como políticas dirigidas a la no repetición de los acontecimientos represivos. Paralelamente, las víctimas y organizaciones de la sociedad civil, haciendo efectiva la membresía del Estado español en el Consejo de Europa, han acudido en ocho ocasiones ante la jurisdicción del Tribunal Europeo de Derechos Humanos, en reclamo de estos mismos derechos, sin que hasta la fecha este tribunal haya considerado que cuenta con jurisdicción para pronunciarse al respecto.

    Over the past few years, but especially on the last lustrum, the United Nations has shown a deep concern about the situation of the Spanish Civil War and the Franco's regime victims. Therefore the United Nations has recommended to Spain a series of legislative and institutional modifications in order to achieve better protection of the rights to truth, justice, reparation and guarantees in order to avoid any future repetition of this sort of human rights violations. In this regard, victims and civil society organizations have sued eight times before the European Court of Human Rights the protection ot these rights. Nonetheless, the Court has considered in every case that has no jurisdiction to pronounce about this matter.
