    The following papper analyses the Impeachment with the aim of verifying if its institute has became a museum piece. Using the historical and conceptual method, the text traces the main historical variations that came to shape, nowdays the referred institute on the republican State, particularly in Brazil. After dealing with the impeachment in its origin and evolution in england and its development in United States of America, the text cares about nacional rights and, by historic analysis, presents the modifications and the characteristics with wich the institute is sedimented in Brazil, concluding by its necessity as form to reinforce and garantee the Federative Republic as Democratic State.

    O presente trabalho analisa o impeachment com o fito de verificar se o instituto se tornou uma peça de museu. Utilizando  o método histórico-conceitual, o texto traça as principais vicissitudes históricas que vieram a moldar, atualmente, o referido instituto no Estado republicano, particularmente no Brasil. Após tratar do impeachment em sua origem e evolução na Inglaterra e em seu desenvolvimento nos Estados Unidos da América, o texto cuida do direito nacional e, por análise histórica, apresenta as modificações  e as características com que o instituto se sedimentou no Brasil, concluindo pela sua necessidade como forma de consolidar e garantir a República Federativa como Estado Democrático de Direito.
