    No cabe duda de la importancia que comporta la propiedad intelectual para los Gobiernos, los mercados y la economía en la actualidad. La protección de los bienes inmateriales o intangibles se ha traducido como un sinónimo de progreso y desarrollo para las sociedades organizadas. Sin embargo, al preguntarse sobre la razón de ser de la propiedad intelectual, se evidencia algunas ambivalencias sobre el alcance del término “propiedad” que deben ser analizadas. El propósito de este escrito consiste en hacer un acercamiento a las posibles interpretaciones sobre el sustantivo “propiedad” y discutir otros elementos relevantes de la propiedad intelectual.

    There is no doubt of the importance of the intellectual property for the governments, the market and the economy today. The protection of immaterial goods or intangible assets has been translated as a synonym of progress and development for the organized societies. However, when questioned about the reason for being of the intellectual property, there is evidence of some ambivalence about the range that the term “property” has that should be analyzed. The purpose of this paper is to make an estimated approach to the possible interpretations of the noun “property” and discuss other relevant aspects of the intellectual property.
