    Desde la primera crisis de la institución analítica en 1953, Lacan se da cuenta de que la transmisión del psicoanálisis es fundamental para su supervivencia; por ello, a lo largo de su enseñanza, reflexionará y construirá los medios de formación de analistas y de transmisión del psicoanálisis. Cuando inventó el pase todavía creía en la transmisión.

    Al final de su enseñanza, en su seminario sobre el sinthome, puso el acento en lo que resonaba de lo real en lo simbólico, y ya no en el equívoco significante. A partir de entonces, la transmisión del psicoanálisis, que Lacan consideraba como imposible, fue orientada por el síntoma.

    Since the analytical institution�s first crisis in 1953, Lacan realized that the transmission of psychoanalysis is essential to its survival. For that reason, throughout his teachings, he would reflect on and create the means of training analysts and of transmitting psychoanalysis. When he invented the pass, he still believed in this transmission. At the end of his teachings, in his seminar about the sinthome, he emphasized what resonated of the real in the symbolic, not the equivocal signifier.

    From then on, the transmission of psychoanalysis, which Lacan considered impossible, was situated by the symptom.
