    The century that passes from the fall of Constantinople (1453) to the battle of Lepanto (1571) presents the Mediterranean Sea as the theatre of the clash between the European powers and the Turks, but is also a moment in which the world enlarged through the creation of the Atlantic empires ultramar. Historical and historiographical discussion.
