    : El policentrismo constituye el aspecto principal de la historia política y cultural de Sicilia. En la edad aragonesa y castellana, la isla, ya escenario de invasiones tumultuosas y conquistas por parte de poblaciones bastante diferentes en cuanto a costumbres, religiones y lenguas, verá importantes progresos en la romanización de los enclaves arabófonos, hebreófonos y grecófonos a favor del latín y del siciliano, y la aparición de un enclave cultural y lingüístico albanés.

    The policentrism constitutes the main aspect of the political and cultural history of Sicily. In the Aragonese and Castilian age, the island, already scene of tumultuous invasions and conquests on the part of quite different people as far as customs, religions and languages, will see important progresses in the romanization of the enclaves of Arabic, Hebrew and Greek speakers in favour of Latin and Sicilian, and the appearance of a cultural and linguistic Albanian enclave
