    Miguel Ruiz de Villanueva fue un activo político y propietario almeriense de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, plenamente identificado con el sistema político e ideológico de la Restauración. De origen rural pero de formación madrileña, introdujo en la provincia algunas de Ias instituciones privadas más mportantes de la época. Ambicioso empresario hasta la desmesura, canalizó gran parte del capital minero virgitano hacia la zona de Roquetas, donde vivió largos años. La magnitud de sus proyectos y de sus fracasos nos permite conocer parte de la estructura económica y social de la época en el actual Poniente provincial.

    Miguel Ruiz de Villanueva was an active politician and an almeriense owner in the second half of the XIX century and fully identified with the political and ideological system in the Restoration. Of rural origin but educated in Madrid, he created some of the most important private establishments/institutions of the province at that time. He was a very ambitious businessman who directed/channeled a great part of the virgitano mining capital towards Roquetas Area, where he lived for years. The magnitude of his projects and failures let us know about part of the economical and social structure at that time in the actual west wind of the province.
