  Enmarcado en los estudios autobiográficos y narratológicos, este libro es un novedoso aporte a la historia cultural y literaria de Cuba, el Caribe y las Américas, porque estudia las diversas expre- siones de la memoria negra —entre conflictos, resistencias, racismos y traumas— en las historias de vida de relevantes figuras artísticas e intelectuales cubanas contemporáneas: Nicolás Guillén, Elvira Cervera, Georgina Herrera, Lourdes Casal, Sara Gómez, Carlos Moore, Pedro Pérez Sarduy y Carlos Acosta. En sus páginas se aborda además la recepción crítica cubana de lo auto- biográfico y se reflexiona sobre los presupuestos de la autobiografía, las memorias, el testimonio y la heterobiografía. También brinda un panorama histórico de la tradición autobiográfica de Cuba, su génesis y evolución, desde el siglo XIX hasta principios del XXI. Como colofón, ofrece un valioso y útil registro bibliográfico de las escrituras y narrativas de vida producidas por cubanos afrodescendientes.

  Within the framework of autobiographical and narratological studies, this book is a novel contribution to the cultural and literary history of Cuba, the Caribbean and the Americas, because it studies the diverse expressions of black memory - among conflicts, resistance, racism and trauma - in the life stories of relevant contemporary Cuban artistic and intellectual figures: Nicolás Guillén, Elvira Cervera, Georgina Herrera, Lourdes Casal, Sara Gómez, Carlos Moore, Pedro Pérez Sarduy and Carlos Acosta. The book also deals with the Cuban critical reception of the autobiographical and reflects on the assumptions of autobiography, memoirs, testimony and heterobiography. It also provides a historical overview of the autobiographical tradition in Cuba, its genesis and evolution, from the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. Finally, it offers a valuable and useful bibliographical record of the life writings and narratives produced by Cubans of African descent.
