    El discreto objetivo de este libro es que sea una obra útil, una herramienta de trabajo que sirva para aquellas personas -medievalistas, historiadores, arabistas, profesores, estudiantes, expertos o interesados en general- que necesiten manejar las fuentes árabes relativas a la historia de Al-Andalus. Su pretensión es que sea un compendio, una guía, un mapa ordenado para orientarse y no perderse en el complicado mundo de las fuentes relativas a la civilización andalusí, centrándonos, para que llegue a un mayor número de lectores, en aquellas fuentes que, de manera total o parcial, han sido editadas a un árabe fácil de entender o han sido traducidas a un idioma occidental; de forma consciente, hemos dejado a un lado aquellas fuentes que aún permanecen en el estado de manuscrito, pues para manejar y entender estas fuentes, sí que se necesita una preparación especial y profesional. Y como toda obra de este tipo, responde a una doble necesidad. Por una parte, servir de apoyo y consulta para aquellos estudiantes que se inician en el estudio histórico de Al-Andalus, con la esperanza de que tengan un soporte que les indique e informe, de manera rápida y eficaz, de los principales datos y cuestiones historiográficas que rodean a las fuentes que deseen examinar. La segunda necesidad es la que he percibido, de forma constante y recurrente, en todas las reuniones de trabajo, congresos, simposios, conferencias y debates que he tenido con mis compañeros medievalistas; en todos es tos encuentros, siempre que ha salido a relucir el tema de las fuentes árabes, se me ha hecho ver la dificultad que para ellos tenían su manejo y conocimiento (por supuesto, hay honorables excepciones entre los medievalistas que manejan el árabe y saben del tema) de las mismas, bien porque estaban en lengua árabe, bien porque las traducciones estaban demasiado dispersas en revistas especializadas. El núcleo central de la obra son las casi doscientas fichas de fuentes árabes de las que damos cuenta. En cada una de ellas recogemos, de forma sucinta los datos básicos de la obra (nombre de la misma, tanto el nombre completo como el breve por el que es conocida, así como su traducción; el nombre de su autor, de la misma manera, junto al nombre completo, el corto por el que es conocido historiográficamente; los datos biográficos esenciales sobre el autor, a fin de poder enmarcar la obra temporalmente; el género y tipo de obra que es, así como el nivel, a nuestro juicio, de su importancia y valor como fuente); a continuación, en la misma ficha, dedicamos unas líneas a dar cuenta de su contenido; a su valor historiográfico, a juzgar por los comentarios de los especialistas que la han estudiado; las etapas de Al-Andalus para las que es interesante su consulta; las ediciones, totales y parciales, ordenadas cronológicamente, de las que tenemos noticias, de forma exhaustiva; las traducciones, totales y parciales, también ordenadas por su orden de aparición, así como la lengua de traducción; y, por último, para aquellos investigadores que quieran profundizar en el análisis de dicha fuente, una somera bibliografía en la que nos hemos esforzado en reunir aquellas piezas historiográficas que fueron fundamentales en su día para su estudio, junto a la bibliografía más actual sobre el tema.

    The discreet objective of this book is that it be a useful work, a work tool that serves for those people -medievalists, historians, Arabists, teachers, students, experts or interested in general- who need to handle the Arabic sources related to the history of Al Andalus. Its claim is that it be a compendium, a guide, an ordered map to orient oneself and not get lost in the complicated world of sources relating to the Andalusian civilization, focusing, so that it reaches a greater number of readers, on those sources that, in in whole or in part, have been edited into easy-to-understand Arabic or have been translated into a Western language; consciously, we have left aside those sources that still remain in the manuscript state, because to handle and understand these sources, a special and professional preparation is needed. And like all works of this type, it responds to a double need. On the one hand, to serve as support and consultation for those students who are beginning the historical study of Al-Andalus, with the hope that they will have a support that indicates and informs them, quickly and efficiently, of the main data and issues historiography surrounding the sources they wish to examine. The second need is the one that I have perceived, constantly and recurrently, in all the work meetings, congresses, symposiums, conferences and debates that I have had with my fellow medievalists; In all these meetings, whenever the subject of Arabic sources has come up, I have been made to see the difficulty that their management and knowledge had for them (of course, there are honorable exceptions among medievalists who handle Arabic and know subject) of the same, either because they were in Arabic, or because the translations were too dispersed in specialized magazines. The central nucleus of the work is the almost two hundred files from Arabic sources that we give an account of. In each one of them we briefly collect the basic data of the work (its name, both the full name and the brief name by which it is known, as well as its translation; the name of its author, in the same way , together with the full name, the short film by which it is known historiographically; the essential biographical data about the author, in order to be able to frame the work temporarily; the genre and type of work it is, as well as the level, in our opinion, of its importance and value as a source); next, in the same tab, we dedicate a few lines to give an account of its content; to its historiographical value, judging by the comments of the specialists who have studied it; the stages of Al-Andalus for which your consultation is interesting; the editions, total and partial, ordered chronologically, of which we have news, exhaustively; the translations, total and partial, also ordered by their order of appearance, as well as the language of translation; and, finally, for those researchers who want to delve deeper into the analysis of said source, a brief bibliography in which we have endeavored to gather those historiographical pieces that were fundamental in their day for their study, together with the most current bibliography on the issue.
