• The principle aim of the Conference was to highlight the key role the family plays in the sustainable development of society. Family is the key to achieving the Millennium Development Goals set out by the UN, among which eradicating world poverty, universal education and the reduction of infant mortality are highlighted. The concept of family also lies at the heart of the European Commission’s Europe 2020 Growth Strategy in order to achieve objectives in the areas of education, social inclusion and employment.
