Els textos recollits en aquest volum ofereixen una visió general sobre els processos de patrimonialització de les formes culturals vinculades al mar. Més enllà de l’estat del patrimoni marítim en sí, el llibre s’interessa per la manera en que s’està construint aquest patrimoni i com s’utilitza en l’actualitat. Els autors plantegen les seves propostes teòriques a partir de casos etnogràfics i històrics situats a Catalunya, País Basc, Galícia, Andalusia, així com el Yucatán a Mèxic i la Bretanya a França.
