En este trabajo se realiza una evaluación de la situación actual del mercado mayorista de gas natural en España y en la Península Ibérica. Se revisan los cambios recientes en la legislación y en el marco normativo y se analizan la evolución de la liquidez y de los precios del gas natural y algunos desarrollos recientes en el mercado, como la entrada de entidades de contrapartida central o la puesta en marcha de una plataforma de mercado organizado a plazo. En la parte final del estudio se analizan las perspectivas de evolución del mercado en los próximos tiempos y se identifican algunas vías para mejorar el funcionamiento del mercado.

This study analyses the current situation of the wholesale natural gas market in Spain and the Iberian Peninsula. Recent changes to the legislation and the regulatory framework are described and the evolution of liquidity and prices of natural gas is reviewed. Other recent developments are discussed, such as the new OTC registration services offered by central counterparties or the creation of an exchange for term products. The last sections of the study are devoted to analyzing the expected evolution of the market over the next few years and to identifying and discussing some potential avenues to improve the functioning of the wholesale market.
