This volume assembles some contributions related to the fieldwork developed in the frame of the 26th Commission on the Sustainability of Rural Systems of the International Geographical Union Colloquium, held in Santiago de Compostela and other rural Galician places in July 2018. As is tradition in the IGU CSRS colloquia, fieldwork is a central part of each scientific annual event. The texts have been developed by scholars and practitioners who are expert on the places they work with. The book opens with a synthetic introduction of rural Galicia by critically presenting what the main issues currently at stake therein are. Then, several contributions dealing with the different visits are set forth. A first round of fieldwork takes place on the Galician coastlands, including the Herbón hot pepper greenhouses, aquaculture beds in Cambados, a public research centre focussed on agricultural innovation in Abegondo (Mabegondo), a private foundation mainly devoted to rural development in San Pedro de Nós (Oleiros) and O Salnés winescapes and wine cellars...
