Throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries, interest has grown in the history of education in Extremadura—a field that had previously received little attention. Thanks to the pioneering work of numerous researchers, a comprehensive and rigorous overview of education in the region since the 16th century has been reconstructed. This foundation supports the project described here: the creation of a bio-bibliographical dictionary dedicated to authors, institutions, and publishing agents linked to the history of education in Extremadura. The work is significant because it offers, for the first time, an exhaustive and methodologically consistent systematization of figures and institutions whose activities left behind printed or manuscript records related to education in the region. Furthermore, it builds upon a regional tradition of bibliographic directories dating back to the 19th century, updating and expanding it by incorporating more precise thematic, chronological, and documentary criteria. The dictionary’s primary objective is to catalog and describe—using a standardized format—the life stories and publishing output associated with each entry, while organizing primary and secondary sources and locating copies in archives and libraries. The period covered spans from 1750 (continuing chronologically from earlier studies) to the 1950s, comprising approximately thirty institutions and nearly two hundred and sixty biographies. The entries follow a fixed structure: biographical notes, a description of the work, a classification of sources, and a selected bibliography. Each record organizes primary and secondary sources chronologically and includes detailed information regarding locations and reissues. Given the diversity of profiles included, the dictionary establishes specific categories to facilitate interpretation (works, articles, manuscripts, book chapters, etc.). Finally, the authors acknowledge the inherently open nature of a directory of this kind, which requires revision and expansion as new studies and documentary materials come to light.
