This volume offers a selection of 16 texts that were presented at the 12th International Conference of the Society for Emblem Studies, held at the University of Coimbra, from 25 to 30 July 2022. Each chapter focuses on a different approach to emblematics, fostering new directions in research. The work explores the connections to iconographical studies; investigates emblematic sources applied on material culture; discusses the didactic and/or propagandistic use of emblems and showcases the challenges of publishing manuscripts and digital editions. The final contribute brings a stimulating preview of the future of emblem studies.
