    “Bilbao, La Salzburgo del Atlántico” es un título que sugiere de alguna forma la efervescencia musical de la Villa en el último tercio del siglo XIX y primeras décadas del XX, que coinciden con la actividad en varios frentes culturales y sociales de don Emiliano de Arriaga.

    La intervención de hoy contempla algunas facetas del Arriaga escritor costumbrista, del Arriaga músico, de su figura social y finaliza dando cuenta de la importancia que tuvo don Emiliano en la recuperación de la figura de Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, que se convirtió en un símbolo y acicate de muchas actividades, fundamentalmente musicales, que se emprenden en este periodo particularmente rico en realizaciones y que, sin duda, formó la base para el desenvolvimiento de la vida musical en todo el siglo XX, llegando su influjo hasta la hora presente.

    “Bilbao, the Salzburg of the Atlantic” is a title that in some way suggests the musical vitality of the Township in the final third of the XIX century and the first decades of the XX century, which coincided with the activities of don Emiliano de Arriaga on various cultural and social fronts.

    Today’s talk considers some facets of Arriaga as a writer of manners, of Arriaga the musician, of Arriaga as a social figure, and ends by explaining the important role played by don Emiliano in the recovery of the figure of Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, who became a symbol and incentive for many, basically musical, activities that were undertaken in this period. This was a period that was particularly rich in realisations and one that, without doubt, formed the basis for the development of musical life throughout the XX century, with its influence reaching to the present.
