    Tanto la tradición literaria como la oral de Occidente se nutren de Homero y de la Biblia, sin olvidar las fuentes célticas, árabes (en el sustrato, India, Egipto ...). Sin embargo, hoy día, ¿qué joven medianamente instruido porta en su imaginario biblias, panchatantras y homeros? Parece que estamos asistiendo a una transformación profunda de la mitología que sustenta nuestra psique. A pesar de ello, aún sostengo que hay mucho que rescatar y reavivar de esas antiguas tradiciones. Puede que esté equivocado, tratando de detener una inundación que arranca de cuajo raíces culturales que están ahí de «toda la vida», sin darme cuenta de que otros recursos son mucho más atractivos y eficientes (la consabida eficiencia): los chat, Facebook, iphone ... y lo que vendrá. Esos recursos son los que motivan a niños y jóvenes, con su gran poder de seducción y fascinación.

    Es posible que estemos abocados a una oralidad globalizada, con una simbolización completamente renovada, superando las viejas simbologías nacidas de los sangrientos conflictos y de las ansias de poder de los seres humanos. Una nueva oralidad basada en una sensibilidad feminizada, tolerante, no ávida de poder. Y sin embargo ...

    The literary and oral tradition of the West feed on Homer and the Bible, not to mention Celtic, and Arabian sources (in the substratum, India, Egypt, etc.). Yet nowadays how many young people with an average education go around with Bibles, Panchatantras and Homers in their imaginaries? We appear to be witnessing a deep transformation in the mythology that underpins our psyche. Nevertheless, I still maintain that there is much that can be salvaged and revived from those ancient traditions. I may be mistaken in trying to stop a flood that is sweeping away the four cultural roots which have been there «all our lives» without realising that other resources are much more attractive and efficient (the oft-repeated efficiency): chat, Facebook, iphone ... and what is yet to come. These resources are the ones that motivate children with their great power to seduce and fascinate. We could be heading for globalised orality with a totally renewed symbolisation taking over from the old symbologies, which were born out of the bloody conflicts and thirst for power of human beings. And a new orality based on a feminised sensitivity, which is tolerant but not greedy for power, could emerge. However, ...
