In the same way, the personal experiences of their protagonists help us to interpret, more concisely, the historical context in which they lived. The the combination of both of them more accurately reproduces the explanation we wish to give to the event that has been researched on in our academic contributions. This article focuses on three recently discovered and definitely unpublished documents, which are the basis for developing new research contributions on the Liberal Triennium (1820-1823) and the figure of Rafael del Riego y Flórez. The aims of this article are to clarify some aspects of those three key years in the life of this historical figure, providing new data on his persecution during the military uprising, new information on his arrest and escort by the French army, and contributions to literature, his life and the repression of the exiled liberals after the return of the Absolutism of Ferdinand VII.
