El presente artículo tiene por objetivo socializar los resultados obtenidos en la caracterización realizada a mujeres y personas menstruantes en situación de vulnerabilidad socioeconómica del municipio de Bucaramanga con la finalidad de explorar la realidad del conocimiento, uso y acceso a elementos de higiene menstrual. Este ejercicio se realiza a partir de una investigación de carácter mixta, principalmente cuantitativa para reconocer el estado actual de la gestión y dignidad menstrual desde los conocimientos que tiene la población sobre el acceso y uso efectivo de productos para la higiene menstrual; pero también, en menor medida cualitativa para describir las barreras en el acceso a estos elementos.
La población participante fueron mujeres y personas menstruantes que habitan las siguientes zonas que componen el Municipio de Bucaramanga: comunas 1 y 2 correspondiente al área urbana, los (3) corregimientos del área rural, asentamientos humanos, zonas de alta permanencia en calle comoel Centro de la ciudad, donde permanecen mujeres en habitabilidad en calle, trabajadoras informales y trabajadoras de las plazas de mercado públicas del municipio. También se encuestó a mujeres adolescentes y personas menstruantes vinculadas a instituciones de atención a menores de edad en proceso de restablecimiento de derechos, pertenecientes al Sistema de Responsabilidad Penal Adolescentes y estudiantes de instituciones educativas públicas.

The objective of this article is to socialize the results obtained in the characterization of menstruating women and persons in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability in the municipality of Bucaramanga in order to explore the reality of knowledge, use and access to menstrual hygiene elements. This exercise is based on a mixed research, mainly quantitative to recognize the current state of menstrual management and dignity from the knowledge that the population has about the access and effective use of menstrual hygiene products; but also, to a lesser extent qualitative to describe the barriers in the access to these elements. The participating population consisted of women and menstruating women living in the following areas of the Municipality of Bucaramanga: Communes 1 and 2 corresponding to the urban area, the three rural areas, human settlements, areas with a high number of people living on the streets, such as the city center, where women live on the streets, informal workers and workers in the municipality’s public marketplaces. We also surveyed adolescent women and menstruating persons linked to institutions that care for minors in the process of restoring their rights, belonging to the System of Adolescent Criminal Responsibility and students of public educational institutions.
