    Este artículo pretende contribuir al esclarecimiento y a la difusión de la trayectoria vital y visionaria de la toledana Juana de la Cruz (1481-1534) y de la granadina Beatriz María de Jesús (1632-1702), centrándose en una cuestión no apuntada hasta la fecha: las dos tuvieron el mismo ángel de la guarda. En este sentido, se abordan distintos aspectos sobre la naturaleza del ángel, así como su presencia en diversos episodios de la vida de ambas religiosas pertenecientes a la orden franciscana con el objetivo de demostrar que fue uno de los elementos claves para que gozaran de autoridad espiritual en sus respectivas épocas. Para ello, ha sido necesario analizar los relatos hagiográficos pre- y post- tridentinos que hemos conservados acerca de Juana y la biografía que escribió fray Tomás de Montalvo en el siglo XVIII sobre Beatriz.

    This article aims to contribute to the clarification and dissem-ination of the life and visionary trajectory of the Toledan Juana de la Cruz (1481-1534) and the Granada-born Beatriz María de Jesús (1632-1702), focusing on an issue that has not been mentioned to date: they both had the same guardian angel. In this sense, different aspects of the nature of the angel are dealt with, as well as its presence in different episodes of the life of both nuns belonging to the Franciscan order, with the aim of demonstrating that it was one of the key elements for them to enjoy spiritual authority in their respective periods. To this end, it has been necessary to analyse the pre- and post-Tridentine hagiographical accounts we have preserved about Juana and the biography written about Beatriz by Friar Tomás de Montalvo in the 18th century.
