L'ara portàtil de Sant Pere de Rodes: Hipòtesi de filiació longobarda

    En aquest article hem analitzat l'ara portàtil del monestir de Sant Pere de Rodes per situar-la dins un context i un marc cronològic que li sigui convenient. Hem analitzat els motius figuratius i vegetals que integren la composició de l'anvers i del revers de l'ara, els hem dibuixat i ressaltat en dues làmines. Els hem contraposat i comparat amb altres produccions foranes com ara l'escultura, la il·lustració de manuscrits i l'orfebreria. Després de confrontat totes les imatges i estudiar les peculiaritats i les característiques, proposem filiar l'ara dins l'art longobard del nord de la península Itàlica en una cronologia que situem entre els segles viii-ix.

    The purpose of this article is to examine the portable altar of Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery with the aim of providing a relevant chronological context. We ana-lyze human (angel) and plant motifs that comprise the front and back of the altar, and recreate drawings of these items in two separate plates. We then compare these to other pieces in different art genres like sculpture, manuscripts and pre-cious metalworks. Having compared the altar’s motifs to those of the other art pieces and having identified some unique characteristics, we contend that the altar should be considered a piece of Longobard art originating in the North of the Italian Peninsula at some point between the 8th and 9th centuries.
