    Este artículo analiza el rol de la identidad de género en la trayectoria política y profesional de la abogada Mónica Madariaga Gutiérrez (1942-2009), quien fuera asesora jurídica, ministra y embajadora de la Junta Militar encabezada por el General Augusto Pinochet entre 1973 y 1985. Mediante el análisis crítico de discurso de sus memorias, entrevistas y participación en las sesiones de la Junta de Gobierno, se argumenta que una clave del ascenso profesional y político de esta mujer abogada en un mundo castrense dominado por hombres fue la práctica de una performance de género masculinizada y subordinada, la cual reprodujo pero a la vez tensionó la ideología patriarcal de la dictadura militar. Este análisis contribuye a reevaluar la historia política y jurídica de los regímenes autoritarios latinoamericanos en clave de género. Asimismo, complejiza las narrativas sobre la incorporación de mujeres en la profesión jurídica mostrando el paradójico lugar que ocupan las mujeres que, siendo conservadoras, alcanzan posiciones de poder en el ámbito jurídico.

    This article focuses on the role of gender identity in the professional and political career of the female lawyer Mónica Madariaga Gutiérrez (1942-2009), who was legal counsel, secretary of state and ambassador of the Chilean Military Junta led by Augusto Pinochet, between 1973 and 1985. Through critical discourse analysis of her memoirs, interviews, and interventions in the Junta sessions, we argue that the key of her professional and political success in a military regime dominated by men was her gender performance of a subordinated masculinity, which simultaneously reproduced and challenged the patriarchal gender ideology of the military dictatorship. This study contributes to a re-reading of the political and legal history of Latin American authoritarian regimes through the lens of gender. Furthermore, it complicates the narratives regarding the access of women to the legal profession, revealing the paradoxical place occupied by conservative women who have reached positions of power in the juridical field.
