Resumen de El lenguaje soez y ofensivo: dimensiones conceptuales y análisis de su traducción en la novela The Institute.

El presente trabajo ha consistido en el análisis de la traducción del inglés al español del lenguaje soez y ofensivo presente en la novela The Institute, del autor estadounidense Stephen King. Tras referirnos brevemente al autor y su obra, hemos definido los límites conceptuales de este lenguaje y explorado las dimensiones que lo conforman. Seguidamente, hemos estudiado su trasfondo cultural y sociolingüístico y, por otro lado, a nivel formal, hemos observado cómo se forman estos términos y expresiones, cómo evolucionan y con qué resultados. También hemos examinado los retos traductológicos que plantea este lenguaje. Finalmente, nuestro objetivo en el análisis ha sido averiguar cuál ha sido la tendencia dominante en la traducción del lenguaje soez y ofensivo (trasladar o neutralizar) y hemos analizado de forma descriptiva ejemplos concretos extraídos del texto para estudiar cómo se ha gestionado la carga soez y con qué consecuencias de cara a la preservación de la oralidad, entre otros factores.

The aim of this paper has been to analyze the translation of foul language present in The Institute, a novel by US author Stephen King.After briefly addressing Stephen King and his work, we have defined and thoroughly explored the theoretical grounds from which foul language stems. We have also delved into foul language’s cultural and sociolinguistic background; from a linguistic standpoint, we have studied the ormation of these terms and expressions, as well as how they evolve and what effects does the process have. Regarding the translation of foul language, we have identified the main challenges it poses. As for the analysis itself, firstly, our aim was to find out whether the trend leaned towards neutralizing foul language or maintaining it; subsequently, we turned our focus to the descriptive analysis of a selection of examples from the novel as to determine the nature of the translative process and its effects on the text’s orality.
