Una recepción heterodoxa de Tomás de Aquino de la teoría del alma aristotélica

    En este trabajo me propongo abordar de manera breve y esquemática dos asuntos importantes aludidos por Aristóteles en el Tratado sobre el almay la interpretación que de ellos efectúa Tomás de Aquino en algunos pasajes de su obra. Estos dos asuntos son: uno, el de la definición misma del alma propuesta por Aristóteles al comienzo del Libro II del De animay la versión que Santo Tomás ofrece de esa definición. El otro asunto es el carácter del intelecto como parte del alma, y a la vez su carácter de “separado” del alma y del compuesto, o sea, del hombre mismo. Esta última separación queda puesta de manifiesto en el momento de la muerte, cuando lo único inmortal que permanece es el intelecto o mente.

    In this paper I propose to deal briefly and schematically with two important issues alluded to by Aristotle in the Treatise on the Souland the interpretation that Thomas Aquinas makes of them in some passages of his work. These two issues are: one, that of the very definition of the soul proposed by Aristotle at the beginning of Book II of De animaand the version that St. Thomas offers of that definition. The other issue is the character of the intellect as part of the soul, and at the same time its character as "separate" from the soul and the compound, that is, from man himself. This latter separation is made manifest at the moment of death, when the only immortal thing that remains is the intellect or mind.
