This article studies the Gothic mural paintings of the church of San Juan Bautista de Eristain. To do this, we will first carry out an analysis of the site of Eristain, which includes a Palacio de Armería and the aforementioned church. The research of the Solchaga family –the inhabitants of the Palacio– during the reigns of Charles II and III of Evreux will enable us to clarify the context in which the murals were painted. Thestylistic and iconographic study of the –today so deteriorated– murals reveals them to be an interesting example of paintings that adapt to a religious and funerary context of the local nobility, mixing on their walls iconographies that were both out of fashion and innovative for the time.
Artikulu honek orain arte sakon aztertu ez diren Eristaingo San Joan Bataiatzailearen elizako horma-margo gotikoak aztertzen ditu. Horretarako, lehenik eta behin, Eristaineko lekua aztertuko dugu, jauregi bat eta aipatutako eliza barne. Solchaga familia –jauregiko biztanleak– Karlos II. eta III. aren erregealdietan ikertzean, orma margoak sortu ziren testuingurua argituko dugu. Horrela, gaur egun hain hondatuta dauden horma-irudien azterketa estilistiko eta ikonografikoak, erakusten du nola margo hauek erlijio eta hileta testuingurura egokitzen zirela, ikonografia zaharkituak eta berritzaileak nahastuz.
