In this paper, we aim to offer an analysis of examples of violence in Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter from Astrid Lindgren because Ronia can become a role model for young readers that want to create a non-violence society. Ronia’s father, Mattis, is the chief of a clan of robbers. Consequently, violence is present in their daily lives. In addition to this, Mattis does not accept Ronia’s opinions and tries to control her life. However, she disobeys his orders, and she will represent, defend and fight for another style of life without using violence. For example, she establishes a relationship with Birk, the son of the rival robber group, and they try to break with their families’ prejudices and violent practices. Moreover, there are some cases of male violence in this book, like the moment when Mattis assaults Lovis. For that reason, Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter can help teachers and young readers to discuss these problems of our society in class.
