    Desde el siglo XIX a nuestros días, los ateneos han venido ocupando un lugar primordial en la sociedad española, siendo impulsores de un modelo de cultura que siempre ha consistido en cubrir aquellos espacios que la Administración Pública no cubría por falta de medios o por desidia. En estos momentos, el movimiento ateneísta es el movimiento cultural privado y voluntario más importante de España, y tiene en Andalucía su máximo exponente, con la Federación Ateneos de Andalucía acogiendo una treintena de ateneos que vigorizan la cultura de la región

    From the 19th century to the present day, athenaeums have been occupying a primordial place in Spanish society, being promoters of a cultural model that has always consisted of covering those spaces that the Public Administration did not cover due to lack of means or laziness. At this time, the ateneo movement is the most important private and voluntary cultural movement in Spain, and its greatest exponent is in Andalusia, with the Ateneos de Andalucía Federation hosting around thirty athenaeums that invigorate the culture of the region.
