    This article aims to analyze the symbolic construction of carnival in Porto Alegre, promoted by Esmeralda and Venezianos, in its rebirth phase, in the early twentieth century. Based on the analysis of elements such as anthem, diploma, female allegory, origin myth, language and rites produced by them, the aim is to verify how the implementation of a symbology aimed to legitimize these associations as representatives of carnival, being linked to the exercise of dominant power in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

    O presente artigo tem como objetivo analisar a construção simbólica do carnaval em Porto Alegre, promovida por Esmeralda e Venezianos, em sua fase de renascimento, no início do século XX. A partir da análise de elementos como hino, diploma, alegoria feminina, mito de origem, linguagem e ritos por elas produzidos, busca-se verificar de que modo a implantação de uma simbologia visava legitimar essas agremiações enquanto representantes do carnaval, estando atrelada ao exercício de poder dominante na capital rio-grandense.
